"We'll have to start from scratch. We don't have insurance," said Pat Coffey, the pastor of Wiborg First Church of Jesus Christ.

Coffey has only been pastor for three months, but he's been a member for 32 years. He says he doesn't believe Friday morning's fire was an accident.

"Somebody tried to burn us out approximately three months ago. They set the fire in the same spot as this time," Coffey said.

The North McCreary Fire Department worked the fire with help from Whitley City firefighters.

"The fire pretty much gutted the inside of the church. It's not a total loss, there were some things that were salvageable, but not very much," said J.R. Jones, North McCreary's Fire Chief.

Outside the building the roof suffered the most damage. Pastor Coffey says with no insurance the church will have a hard time rebuilding. But he says he isn't angry about what happened, he'll just use his faith to get him through.

"The Bible says pray for you enemies. I didn't know I had any, but the Bible says pray for your enemies," said Coffey.

Arson investigators with Kentucky State Police will be investigating what caused the fire. Pastor Coffey says nothing was stolen from the church. If you'd like to help church members, you can call Pastor Coffey at (606)376-1939.
