MOREHEAD, KY -- An Eastern Kentucky deputy sheriff has been arrested after a federal grand jury indicted him on drug and weapons charges.
Rowan County deputy sheriff Roger Lee Holbrook, 56, was arrested on Friday in Morehead.
Holbrook is charged with conspiracy to distribute the drug oxycodone, attempting to aid and abet the distribution of oxycodone and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
According to the four-count indictment filed May 7 in U.S. District Court in Ashland, Holbrook conspired with others to distribute pills containing oxycodone, a controlled substance, in Rowan County and elsewhere, from an unknown date to about April 14, 2008. He also is charged with aiding and abetting an attempt to distribute pills containing oxycodone in Bath County on or about July 24, 2008, and Nov. 3, 2008.
The weapons charge, involving his possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson .38-caliber revolver, was issued in conjunction with the July 2008 drug trafficking charge.
It could not be immediately determined Friday whether Holbrook had an attorney. No arraignment date had been set.
