LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested what some officers are calling one of their dumbest criminals.
Donnie Allen, 57, faces multiple felony charges, including impersonating a police officer.
Allen is accused of posing as a police officer and trying to pull over another officer -- and investigators said it's the second time he tried it.
Lindsay and Nick Gilkey said Thursday night's collision at Eastern Parkway and I-65 was bizarre.
"I didn't know what was going on," said Nick Gilkey. "I went over there and talked to them and found out he'd come flying around and through the yard and hit the cars and stuff."
It was the end of a chase that started at 7th and Berry with an attempted traffic stop by police and the suspect.
Metro Police said Allen flashed his lights of his Crown Victoria at an unmarked vice squad unit.
"Once he realized the real police were pulling him over, he fled the scene at a high rate of speed," said Detective Phil Russell of Metro Police. "He ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road."
Allen is no officer, but his lengthy criminal record suggests he's spent a lot of time with police, and detectives said this isn't the first time he tried to pull over an unmarked car.
Fourth Division Major Steven Green said two weeks ago, Allen attempted to stop him..and got away.
"I don't know if this is just purely bad luck on his part, being kind of a dumb criminal and pulling over police or whether, unfortunately, he's done it so many times," Russell said.
"There were, like, 20 police cars and maybe, like, 50 cops," Lindsay Gilkey said. "They had guns pulled on the passenger of the silver car everywhere."
"I guess he got what he deserved," Nick Gilkey said.
The witnesses said the passenger in Allen's car was taken away in an ambulance. It's unclear if he'll face charges.
Police want to know if Allen may have tried to pull anyone else over in the past few weeks.
