RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - John Wall has signed a letter of intent to play for Kentucky, making the sought-after recruit a late addition to what many regard as the top recruiting class in the country.
Wall formally announced his decision to play for the Wildcats during a news conference Wednesday afternoon at his school, Word of
God Christian Academy in Raleigh.
The point guard had been pursued by numerous schools including Duke, North Carolina State and Miami, but he decided he wanted to play for John Calipari and be a part of the new coach's rebuilding effort at the storied Kentucky program.
Wall said his relationship with Calipari might have been the most important factor in his decision.
Wall was named The Associated Press men's player of the year for North Carolina in March.
