"Sin Tax" Changing Drinking Habits

It's a tax hike many Kentuckians took notice of.. mainly because of the strain it put on their wallets.

The so-called sin tax, on alcohol and cigarettes, went into effect on April first. Since, sales numbers have gone down 55 percent. At first glance those numbers indicate that people are drinking less.

But 27 Newsfirst spoke to local alcohol vendors who say people aren't drinking less--just differently.

Many people are buying more beer than alcohol and wine. But that doesn't mean wine sales are necessarily down, say local wine vendors. Some are just opting for cheaper wines and liquors says some liquor store owners.
