Lexington's Mayoral Candidates Face Off

The hotly contested campaign for Lexington mayor is into the home stretch. The candidates came to WKYT's studios to tape their last scheduled appearance together before election day.

For the most part, Mayor Teresa Isaac and candidate Jim Newberry are cordial, but it's business like when they're together. Their campaigns have been mostly void of attack ads, but they have sparred verbally and things heated up some Thursday on the issue of endorsements.

Isaac has essentially run this race on her record and touts her administration's accomplishments on the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government website.

Newberry has run television ads continuously with his now familiar catchphrase, "folks, it's time for a change."

Reasons why we need change, but no rest for the weary, Newberry says he feels good and will campaign this weekend. Isaac says she's sleeping very little, campaigning for as many as ten hours a day. We find out who's work pays off Tuesday.

Isaac and Newberry will appear on Kentucky Newsmakers Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. to talk about the issues in an expanded forum, right here on WKYT 27 NEWSFIRST.

We'll look at that race and some others on 27 NEWSFIRST starting at five.
