An eastern Kentucky community gathered Friday to honor the loss of a local soldier.

Lance Corporal Jonathan Thornsberry, a 22 year old marine of McDowell, died in Iraq last month. Hundreds of people filled the church to pay their respects to their local hero. But some who knew Thornsberry are remembering the good times.

One person spoke about Thornsberry saying, "he was tough, he was a good ball player and there wasn't no finer boy than he was. We're going to miss him, miss him bad."

The military says Thornsberry was killed when his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb. Thornsberry leaves behind a wife and young daughter
