People living in a Lexington apartment building spent Wednesday night out of their homes after a fire tore through part of the building.
The fire broke out on Linden Walk, off East Maxwell, near downtown.
There are four units added onto the back of the building, where the fire started.
Two of those units have heavy smoke and fire damage.
The fire started on a couch outside the building then spread. Investigators now say they think a cigarette is to blame.
Utilities were turned off to the apartments into Thursday morning, so residents couldn't return home.
An investigation into what started the fire is underway.
