Nicholasville police were called to a deadly car crash Monday afternoon on U.S. 27 in Jessamine County.

Police tell 27 NEWSFIRST the crash was the result of a head on collision. Police say Dominique Stewart, 24 years-old of Lexington, died in that crash. Stewart was killed when his car was struck by another car. The other driver, 34 year old Christopher Allen, was taken to UK Hospital. He's currently listed in good condition.

Nicholasville police say both southbound lanes of Nicholasville Road were shut down for more than four hours.

The crash happened when Allen crossed over the center lane of traffic, colliding with Stewart's car. Both drivers were taken to the hospital, but Stewart was pronounced dead after arriving.

Police say Allen told them he had fallen asleep at the wheel when he crossed over the center lane, slamming into Stewart's car. Police are performing tests to determine whether alcohol or any other substance was involved.
