Police say nine puppies were stolen from Tameika Short's garage on Hill Street in Richmond. Short says it happened earlier this month when a tornado ripped through Kentucky.

Authorities say people stealing pets to turn a profit have been a growing problem, especially during these hard economic times.

Richmond Police have arrested 18-year old Tony Gay this week, where some of the puppies were located at his residence. He is facing felony charges for receiving stolen property over $300.

The puppies were a pit bull mix, and the owner says two of the puppies were all set to go to homes.

Police do believe another suspect may be involved. With four puppies still missing, the investigation continues.

The owner has told us the puppies have been removed from her home to temporarily ensure their safety.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Richmond Police Department at (859)623-8911 or (859)623-1162.
