A hugely debated issue is finally put to rest Tuesday night after condemnation of the water company.

When the votes were counted, the no's came out on top and now the city of Lexington will not attempt to take over the Kentucky American Water company.

Nick Rowe with Kentucky American Water says for those who voted yes for condemnation, the company will continue to serve them well.

Those with Kentucky American Water say the no vote protects our water service. Now that the no votes won, that means the voters are informing council that they don't want the city to use eminent domain and restart condemnation.

But does council have to follow through with their wishes?

Both mayoral candidates and council candidates said they will abide by the voters decision regardless of how they personally feel.
