WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is stepping
down. President Bush made the announcement in a news conference at which he also said Americans used yesterday's vote to call for
change in Washington.

He said he's obviously disappointed with the election results, but added that the White House will find common ground with new leaders in Congress.

Former C-I-A Director Robert Gates has been tapped as Donald Rumsfeld's replacement. The president says the time is right for new leadership at the Pentagon and that Gates will bring a "fresh perspective." He says U-S troops should not to lose faith over the change.
