FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State legislation to keep social workers
more safe may be on the way.
Lawmakers and social workers gathered in Frankfort today to
discuss a bill that could include elements to protect social
workers. Ideas discussed include more police backup, improved
communications equipment and more workers so visits wouldn't be made
The October murder of social worker Boni Frederick reminded the
nation of the danger social workers face. Frederick was killed
while supervising a visit between a nine-month-old boy and his
mother in western Kentucky. Police say the toddler had been removed
from his mother's custody when he was 13 days old because of
neglect. Police believe Frederick was attacked and killed by the
baby's mother and the mother's boyfriend.
