Deadly Shooting in Laurel County
A deadly shooting Tuesday night in Southern Kentucky, but is it murder? The suspect’s family says the shooting was an accident.
State police say Edward Brian Whitaker went to his cousin’s home off Sallys Branch Road outside of London with a shotgun. The two men got into an accident and police say Whitaker pulled the trigger.
28-year-old Benjamin Brian Gilbert was air lifted to the UK hospital where he died.
Police arrested Whitaker a short time after the shooting. Right now he is charged with assault, but we told the charge will be upgraded to murder.
Whitaker’s mother told us the shooting was an accident. She says her son told her the gun accidentally went off when he was at his cousin’s home.
