People Pack City Hall Over Zoning Debate

By: Jermont Terry
Video will be available shortly

Homeowners in the Hollywood-Mt. Vernon Neighborhood packed City Hall Thursday night. The council had to decide whether to pass a moratorium to prevent the neighborhood from becoming an historic neighborhood.

Neighbors spoke out for and against the issue. The meeting was so packed, some had to watch and listen in an overflow room in City Hall.

Those who opposed the H-1 zoning says it takes away the homeowner right to do what he or she wants with their property. Those in favor say it increases property values.

In the end the council voted to pass the moratorium.

Now the issue has been put on the back burner for at least three months as both sides try to reach a compromise.
