Beshear meets with legislative leaders on finances

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear is meeting with leading
lawmakers regarding a planned special legislative session later
this month.

Beshear says he still is uncertain whether he will ask the General Assembly to consider legislation that would allow video gambling machines at Kentucky horse tracks, a move that could create a new general fund revenue source.

Economic forecasters predict Kentucky is facing a general fund shortfall of $996 million over the next year.

The governor is planning to call a special session to begin June 15 to hammer out ways to deal with the shortfall. He spent much of Wednesday morning meeting with House and Senate leaders.
