EKU approves budget for upcoming year

Eastern Kentucky University has a new budget.

On Monday, the Board of Regents approved a $218 million spending plan for the upcoming school year.

The meeting was at EKU's new Manchester campus.

The budget includes a 4% tuition increase and no raises for faculty and staff.

EKU also extended the contract of President Doug Whitlock. It comes after an outside consulting group did an assessment and found Whitlock enjoys strong trust both on campus and off.

Eastern extended Whitlock's contract to 2013.

He worked for the university 38 years before retiring and coming back as president in 2008.
