Print

A caver fell to his death in a Southern Kentucky cave Saturday night.

It happened in the Slone's Valley cave system in the community of Tateville in Pulaski County.

Officials say Edward Martin, 40, of Cincinnati died when he fell 20 to 30 feet while climbing a 60-foot wall to try to exit the cave system.

The exit is known as "Screaming Willy's."

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Martin was with six other cavers.

A deputy Pulaski County coroner says Martin had been in the cave before and had been exploring caves for the past ten to twelve years.

A group of cavers from Pennsylvania tried to assist by giving Martin CPR after the incident, but it was unsuccessful.
