The mother of a murdered Lexington toddler will spend ten years behind bars.
Samantha Monahan was convicted of first-degree criminal abuse after her six-month-old daughter, Cecilia Alvarado, died in August of 2005.
A jury recommended Monahan spend ten years behind bars.
Monahan begged the judge to let her out on probation. Her lawyer said she would be an ideal candidate for probation because she's done so well with it over the past four years, but Judge Clark agreed with jurors and sentenced Monahan to ten years.
Monahan's boyfriend at the time of the baby's death, Roy Rankin, was convicted of murder in the case. He was sentenced to twenty years behind bars.
