RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - A former inmate has filed a lawsuit against
the Madison County government and jail, claiming he was partially
blinded by a fall while incarcerated.
Rodney Lee Perry, of Pulaski County, filed a lawsuit June 5 in
Madison Circuit Court against Madison County Jailer Ron Devere, the
jail and the Madison County government.
The lawsuit claims jail officials were negligent in failing to
repair a light fixture in a cell Perry occupied in June 2008 and
not using safeguards to protect inmates in the event of a fall.
Perry slipped from his bunk bed, the suit alleges, causing
facial fractures and blindness in his right eye.
The Richmond Register reports he had been incarcerated on
charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and was released from jail
on Jan. 22.
The county has yet to respond to the suit, according to court
