Lexington fire officials say the blaze that ripped through a south side apartment was started by a child.

The fire at an Appian Way apartment complex ripped through one unit but was contained before any other apartments were burned.

Fire officials say it appears the fire started in a bedroom, and nearly spread to the attic.

Authorities are not sure exactly how the child started the fire, their investigation is continuing.
