Audit finds $125,000 deficit

An audit at the Whitley County Sheriff's Department found a deficit of nearly $125,000 in various accounts over the past three years.

The State Auditors Office released the report Tuesday morning, showing poor record keeping in Sheriff Lawrence Hodge's office made it difficult for auditors to track money in accounts used to collect taxes and run the office.

Auditors found Hodge failed to deposit receipts and did not have adequate oversight on credit card fuel purchases.

The auditors office has recommended some changes and turned over findings for review by the FBI.
