Tanker crash shuts down part of Purchase Parkway

MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) - Authorities say a northbound section of the
Purchase Parkway in far western Kentucky has reopened, hours after a fiery tanker truck crash killed the driver.

Kentucky State Police say the stretch of parkway just outside Mayfield reopened Tuesday afternoon.

The northbound lanes had been shut down since early morning, when the tanker ran off a bridge and fell off the parkway, landing on U.S. Highway 45 south.

Graves County Coroner Phillip McClain says the tanker driver was killed. He identified the driver as 42-year-old Timmy Byas of LaCenter, Ky. The coroner says there were no passengers in the tanker.

State police say the tanker was empty but caught fire on impact.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
