Beatty Can Take New Position

At Monday night's special council meeting, the Urban County Council approved a measure to modify the city's nepotism law.
The move clears the way for Police Chief Anthany Beatty to be the new Public Safety Commissioner.

Mayor-elect Jim Newberry says Chief Beatty has agreed to take the job, starting January first. Newberry wants the nepotism law revised because Chief Beatty's son is a Lexington firefighter.

Newberry says Beatty will also keep his job as chief, until a new chief can be hired, and that could take months.
