Some 200 people carrying guns showed up to an event at the New Bethel Church in Louisville Saturday night. The event was called an "Open Carry Celebration." Participants were invited to bring their weapons but they had to be unloaded before being allowed into the venue.

Pastor Ken Pagano told the media that the event was not a worship service. He said the church was simply hosting the event which included a film about gun safety and a raffle for a handgun.

The event didn't take place without controversy. The chuch's insurance carrier declined to cover the event and told Pagano they will not renew the policy. However, he was able to find another insurer to cover it.

Across town, peace and church groups held their own gun-free event in response to Pagano's event.

Peopl see the words "guns in church" and just flip out. First, it was only held at a church not IN church as in the service. Second, IT WASN'T EVEN SO MUCH ABOUT THE GUNS as it was standing up for own personal freedoms. Most people don't realize it but in KY it is legal to pack a gun around almost anywhere (minus schools/gov buildings) as long as it is not concealed. However, those that want to look at this literally, give me one reason why teaching gun safety is wrong, even if it is a church teaching it?
