Iran declares election fight over, vote valid

UNDATED (AP) - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says
"We're going to take this a day at a time." She made the comment
after being asked whether Washington will would recognize Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad as Iran's legitimate president.

The 12 clerics who make up the Guardian Council said they found
only "slight irregularities" in the vote after randomly selecting
and recounting 10 percent of nearly 40 million ballots. A council
spokesman declared on state-run television that "the file on the
presidential election has been closed."
Western analysts have described Ahmadinejad's roughly 2-1 margin
of victory as suspicious and improbable.
