Robert Smallwood will now stand trial for a laundry list of charges, including three counts of murder and four counts of rape.
Lexington police say Smallwood killed Doris Roberts, Sonora Allen and Erica Butler over the course of more than seven years.
He is also charged with the 1993 rape of 83 year old Viola Green.
Greene has since died from natural causes.
Investigators say Smallwood's DNA connected him to the three Lexington murders and the rape.
Doris roberts was killed in 1999, Sonora Allen in 2002, and Erica Butler this past April.
Smallwood confessed to Butler's murder and said he may have known Roberts and Allen.
Investigators say Smallwood lived in the area of each of the murders, on the north side of Lexington.
The grand jury also indicted Smallwood on burglary, robbery, and sodomy charges, in connection to the murders.
Commonwealth's Attorney Ray Larson says a decision on whether to seek the death penalty against Smallwood will be made in the next few weeks.
