With the fourth of July weekend just around the corner, many are flocking to firework stands.

But with the start of the firework season comes neighborhood concerns such as the noise factor and the possible fire hazards.

Complaints have already started to roll in, and Lexington city officials are making sure people are playing by the rules. They say people using illegal fireworks, like those with wings or fins, could face fines of hundreds of dollars.

Fireworks with cautionary label using terms like explosive, emits flames, firecracker and report or rocket are also illegal.

Community members say the safest way to enjoy the fireworks is to view organized displays. But if buying them, they ask people to wear protective glasses and don't drink alcohol while handling fireworks.
