VERSAILLES, Ky. (WKYT) - Dramatic 911 call reveal what happened in the minutes leading up to a crash that killed a 5-year-old.
The crash happened Sunday on US 60 in Versailles. Police say a suspected drunk driver slammed into another car head on. The impact killed Blake Cohorn and injured his family.
Tuesday WKYT got the recordings of some of the 911 calls from Sunday night. In the calls you can hear driver after driver report a person going the wrong way along US 60 in Woodford Count. Sadly, the calls ended when police say that car slammed head on into another.
The calls started just before 10PM
"There's a car going fast down the wrong side of the road."
"They were going the opposite direction. They passed us. They were in the lane right beside us."
And the calls just kept coming.
"There is a car driving the wrong way down the highway."
Police say that driver eventually crashed into another car carrying the Cohorn family. After the collision, the phone calls kept coming, urging first responders to get there as fast as possible.
"There's been a horrible car accident on the road between Frankfort and Lexington. There were children involved. It was a head on collision."
"Hey I'm on Versailles road. There's a really bad wreck. This guy's trapped. He was driving the wrong way on Versailles Road."
Sadly that crash left 5-year-old Blake Cohorn dead. His parents, Rocky and Wendi were rushed to UK Hospital. Police say the man driving the wrong way was 26-year-old Alfonso Diaz-Diaz. He's charged with manslaughter, assault and DUI among others.
Police say everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt. Blake was a kindergartener at Harrison Elementary School.
