Police To Start Giving Tickets For Not Buckling Up

Primary Seat Belt Law; Tickets Start January 1st

Kentucky's primary seat belt law has been in effect since July.
The law allows police to stop you if they see you are not not wearing your safety belt.
But up to this point they've only handed out warnings. Beginning January 1st, they are going to hand out tickets to drivers that get caught.

The fine is $25 dollars and the driver is responsible for everyone in the car.

While a lot of people claim they wear their seat belts, only 67% of Kentuckians actually do. When you compare seat belt usage from the entire nation, Kentucky ranks 47th.

With a primary seat belt law, it's expected Kentucky will see 62 fewer fatalities each year.
