Report Says Tough Things About Police Department

Video will be available shortly

A Madison County grand jury issues a scathing report about the way some Richmond Police Officers handle their jobs.

The report is much harsher than Richmond city leaders expected.
It contains words such as lazy and incompetent.

Members of the grand jury concluded sloppy work by some police officers made successfully prosecuting criminal cases more difficult, resulting in some dismissals or amended charges.

Richmond Police veteran Wanda Singleton has been interim chief for only about a month.
She says changes in attitude are needed from top to bottom in her department, including more involvement in the community.

Twice in the past few years, the department has been accused of using excessive force in some situations. Some suggested the incidents were racially motivated. However, the grand jury did not find any racial motivation for alleged police shortcomings.
