An early Friday morning fire has left an Estill County family without a home.

The fire broke out on Pea Ridge Road, west of Irvine, just before 4 a.m..

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames coming from the left-hand side of the roof. They say directlybelow is the kitchen, where the heaviest fire damage is.

The flames spread through the attic, destroying much of the home's roof. Firefighters say there were two roofs on the home, which made fighting the fire difficult for crews.

The homeowners say they have no idea what may have started it. They say they woke up when the airconditioner turned off and they smelled smoke and ran out. Friends and family members helped them salvage a few pictures from the master bedroom after firefighters put the fire out.

No one was hurt.
