Thousands of dollars worth of jewelry stolen from Richmond motel

Police in Richmond are looking into a theft case were a woman says someone stole more than $9,000 worth of jewelry from her motel room.

The woman was staying at the Econo Lodge on Richmond's eastern bypass this Tuesday. That's were police say several pieces of jewelry was stolen, now they're trying to find the jewel thief.

We're told the woman is from Georgia and had been staying at the motel for a couple of days. But when she noticed her jewelry was gone she called police.

Police say there was no signs of forced entry in the room. They are currently conducting back ground checks on all the hotel employees and also looking into who was assigned to clean her room.

Police say they are not sure why the woman was carrying so much jewelry with her at the time of the theft.

Among the several pieces stolen was a ladies gold ring with a peach colored diamond set. Another ring stolen has small diamonds in the shape of a V, a ladies diamond dinner ring with baguettes stones, gold earrings with blue sapphires, and a soft gold bracelet with orange blossoms.
