Bunning says he will vote against Sotomayor

WASHINGTON (AP) - Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning has announced he
will vote against the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Sonia
Sotomayor, saying she is unsuitable for the job.

Bunning, a Republican, said Thursday that Sotomayor avoided
direct questions on how she would rule in a private meeting with
him and also in Senate Judiciary Committee hearings this week.

Bunning said he has a problem with a 2001 speech in which she
said the rulings of a wise Latina would often be superior to those
of a white male. He said those comments indicate she believes
emotions and personal experiences influence a judge's rulings.

Bunning also said Sotomayor shows a "hostility" toward gun
rights and has issued some opinions that are too brief.

Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has not
said how he will vote.
