A Kentucky high school has suspended nearly half its team because of an incident at a tournament in Lexington.
Six players for Covington Holmes High School will be benched for the next six games. The school system will only say its for a violation of team rules which occurred during the Fifth Third Classic at Lexington Catholic High School.
Lexington Catholic’s athletic director has told 27 NEWSFIRST there was a rash of thefts during the tournament.
He says cash, cell phones and other items were stolen from locker rooms, training rooms and the official’s room no three nights of the tournament.
The majority of the stolen items were turned in before the tournament ended.
Lexington police did investigate the thefts, but because the most of the items were returned the criminal investigation was dropped.
No charges have been filed and no connection has been made to any player on any team.
The suspensions at Holmes are just for games, the players are still in school.
