Car owners looking for big deals on the purchase of a new car turned out at dealerships across the Commonwealth looking to qualify for the Cash for Clunkers program.
Gary Settles of Paul Miller Ford said business was booming all weekend and that many customers came in well-informed on the details of the program.
The program is designed to encourage consumers to drive more fuel-efficient vehicles and stimulate the automobile industry. One billion dollars was set aside for the program which allows for some 250,000 people to benefit from.
Cars that qualify must meet certain criteria including age and fuel efficiency. Those who come into a dealership with an eligible "clunker" can earn $3500 to $4500 towards the purchase of a brand new more fuel efficient vehicle.
Dealerships across the country are participating. To find out more about the program, visit www.cars.gov.
