Road re-opened after crash

Just before 11:00 Tuesday night, emergency officials re-opened US 460 in Scott County. The road had been closed between Newtown Pike in Georgetown and Russell Cave Road in Bourbon County since 8:00 am.

A truck carrying chemicals overturned on the highway, near the Georgetown - Scott County airport. The truck was delivering chemicals to Paris, Kentucky when the driver lost control and over corrected, causing the semi to overturn.

Officials evacuated a section near the scene for several hours and closed a 2 1/2 to 3 mile stretch of the highway due to concern about the chemicals that spilled. Their fears were relieved late Tuesday afternoon when they realized the chemical causing the greatest concern, xylene, did not leak.
