KSP looking for uncle in Corbin teenager's death

Flowers and a statue mark the scene of a tragedy. But now police say the spot where Hailee Martin, 13, fell from a moving car, was also somewhat of a crime scene.

“We have established it is a reckless homicide investigation,” said KSP Det. Colan Harrell.

Hailee Martin died July 7th at a Tennessee hospital. That was 3 days after she fell from a moving car that police say was driven by her uncle, James Harold Jones. Police say Hailee was riding on the car's trunk when she fell.

“They traveled 200 feet, and she fell from the vehicle. Her head striking the pavement, causing her death,” said Det. Harrell.

Police say Jones should have known better to let his niece ride in a such a dangerous spot.

“There's a law against riding on the outside of a vehicle..and second her being 13, we have the responsibility to watch over our children and protect them.,” said Harrell.

Police say they don't know where Jones is and are asking the public for help to locate him.
