Police Officer Assaulted During Traffic Stop

A Lexington Police officer is recovering and suspects are on the loose after a scuffle during a traffic stop late Wednesday night.

Officer Donnie Salmons was attacked on Todds Road near North Cleveland Road by four men.

Salmons said he was knocked to the ground and kicked. He received injuries to his face, head, shoulders and ribs.

Police say Salmons was able to reach for pepper spray and use it on one of the suspects before they fled. he had originally reached for his gun, but reholstered it when he saw the men were unarmed.

Salmons did not have to go to the hospital.

Lexington Police are looking for a gray Chevrolet Astro Van with no license plate. They have chased down many tips on the van, but have not found the men responsible.
