Updated: Tue 8:59 AM, Jan 23, 2007

There is new information in a school bus crash that sent 17 students to the hospital. State police are now looking into the possibility the bus driver may have been distracted by her cell phone.

State police tell us there have been some claims made by students on the bus, the driver was text messaging someone when the crash happened.

Police say the driver ran off the road last week overcorrected and hit a utility pole. Three of the students on the bus had to be air lifted to hospitals; two are still recovering in the hospital.

Police say at this point in the investigation they have not substantiated the claims.

The school system say the driver is still out on medical leave. The district says they are waiting for police to finish their investigation into the crash before taking any action.
