FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Two disbarred Lexington lawyers convicted
of defrauding former clients in a diet drug case face sentencing.
William Gallion and Shirley Cunningham were scheduled for sentencing Monday in Covington.
Gallion and Cunningham were convicted of scamming clients out of
$94.6 million while representing them in a case involving the diet
drug fen-phen. They were found guilty in April of eight counts of
wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Both
face up to 20 years in prison on each count.
Prosecutors said the two scammed about 440 clients who had been
hurt using fen-phen, which has been removed from the market after
being linked to heart valve problems.
