Woman shot and killed inside home

Berea Police Officers have arrested Phillip Skidmore III following the shooting death of his wife, Kimberly. Investigators have charged him with murder.

Police say they were called to the couple's home around three this morning after someone called 911 and told operators they heard gunshots.

When police arrived, they say Kim Skidmore was dead in her home. The 52-year-old had been shot once in the chest. 45-year-old Phillip Skidmore III was taken in for questioning and later charged in connection to her death.

Family members say the couple had been married for at least five years.

From the outside, neighbors say the couple looked happy and were often working in their yard. They say they're shocked something like this happened in their neighborhood.

Berea Police Officers agree and say this is their first murder investigation in more than a decade.

Right now, Phillip Skidmore III is behind bars at the Madison County Detention Center.

Kimberly Skidmore's body has been taken to Frankfort for an autopsy.

Skidmore's first court date is set for Wednesday.
