Man killed by train identified

LOUISVILLE, KY -- A 42-year-old man killed by a train Friday night was identified Saturday as Elijah Prostler of Scottsburg Ind., said Gayle Norris, a deputy Jefferson County Coroner.

Prostler died of multiple blunt force injuries at the scene of the accident on the 3200 block of Preston Highway, near the intersection of Audubon Parkway, Norris said.

He was struck about 10:30 p.m. while he was lying on the tracks, said Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman.

The engineer of a Norfolk Southern train heading northbound saw the body lying there but was unable to stop in time, Smiley said.

Smiley said police are investigating the incident but are not handling it as a homicide. Norfolk Southern is also investigating.

It took the train about a half mile to stop, Smiley said.

Emergency personnel found the body in the rear of Jackson Leroy Tile, reports The Louisville Courier-Journal.
