Some storms are possible during the morning and afternoon on Tuesday. Damaging winds and flooding will be the main threats. With an already soaked ground, expect strong winds to easily bring down some trees.
Kentucky state police are still investigating the cause of a head-on collision in rockcastle county involving a Toyota Camry and a Dodge Dakota pick-up truck.
Police say the violent crash happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday on US 25, or South Wilderness Road, just outside Mt. Vernon.
The driver of the camry, 81 year-old Juanita Davis, was killed. Her granddaughter, Rebecca Davis had been riding with her, and she was flown to UK Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the truck, whose name has not been released, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
County coroner Bill Dowell says Juanita Davis was a prominent figure in Mt. Vernon, and a long time friend.
"Outgoing, friendly, smiling all the time," Dowell remembers, "Always at church - morning and night - and she would've been tonight, too."
Dowell says Davis was the chairman of the Republican party of Rockcastle County.
"You get a call, and you wonder if it's someone you know, and you always hope it is not," says Dowell, "and I got to the scene and they told me who it was, you know it makes you feel bad."
Dowell says Davis will be missed in the community.
