More police officers on the road for holiday weekend

Drivers hitting Kentucky roads can expect some company over the weekend in the form of state and local law enforcement officers.

Kentucky State Police officials say they'll be stepping up patrols and have a number of safety checkpoints.

The holiday weekend falls under the national "Drunk driving, over the limit, under arrest campaign." Law enforcement officials state wide say they'll arrest drivers who have been drinking and are over the legal limit and ticketing those who are speeding or ignoring seat belt law.

State Police officials say the bulk of their patrol officers will be on the roads from 6pm Friday night until midnight on Labor Day.

During last year's Labor Day weekend, there were 13 deadly crashes on Kentucky roads.
