"It was a real bad wreck," said Roy Estep.
Estep lives just around the bend from where his step-son - Rocky Smith - and Rocky's wife Christine were involved in a car crash Sunday afternoon.
"Went down where the wreck was, and I seen it was them," Estep said, crying.
Montgomery County authorities say the Smith's car and another car driven by 27 year-old Jeffery Burton collided head-on on HWY 213 near Jeffersonville..
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, Burton was headed down the highway and started to go off the side of the road, over-corrected, and entered the other lane striking the Smith's car head-on.
Family members say Christine Smith died at the scene. They say Rocky Smith, a soldier with the US Army and stationed at Fort Knox, was flown to UK Hospital.
"She's a good person," said Estep, "They're both good people, they'd do anything for you if they could."
The three people in the other vehicle were also taken to area hospitals with injuries.
Authorities say Burton was taken to UK Hospital, along with his passengers - Cynthia Hudson and Anthony Hudson.
Their conditions are unknown at this time.
