KY mother upset by football player son's baptism

HARDINSBURG, Ky. (AP) - The parents of a 16-year-old Kentucky
football player who was baptized at a church during a team function
says they believe their son may have felt some pressure to go
through with the ceremony.

Dannie Ammons told The Associated Press he had no idea his son
was being taken to a church in another county last month. Ammons
says his son, Robert Coffey, probably "did it because the team was
doing it."

Ammons says eight or nine players were baptized during the
outing late last month organized by their football coach, who is a
member of the church.

Michelle Ammons says she feels religion was forced on her son, a
sophomore at Breckinridge County High School. The couple is
considering legal action.

School Superintendent Janet Meeks told The Courier-Journal that
the trip was voluntary and fuel for the school bus was paid for by
another coach.
