5k race paints town pink

PIKEVIILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - One Kentucky town has taken on a bright shade of pink.

"Paint Pikeville Pink" was the theme of today's 5k race in Pikeville.

Nearly 450 participants joined in the race to raise money for cancer research.

Everyone from kids to pets were decked out in their pink attire.

An organizer and breast cancer survivor, Kelli Thompson, says events like this help encourage those that are sick.

"When you see this many people out here rallying behind you it makes you have all the determination in the world that you're going to fight it no matter what it takes you can do it, you can fight it."

Today's event raised $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen foundation and $6,000 for the non-proffit organization "Blessed Beyond Measure."
