A Madison County family will have to start over trying to rebuild their home once again.
They were trying to renovate their home on Moran Mill Road, near Kirksville, after it was damaged n a tornado this June.
When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the home. The woman who lives in the home, Marcella Shepherd, tells firefighters her dog woke her up and she saw hazy smoke in the home. She was able to get herself, and her pets, out of the home before calling 911.
It took about 90 minutes for crews to get the fire out. Crews say that's because the family had just put a new roof on the home over an old roof and flames got trapped in between the layers.
The family's contractor tells 27 News First, he was planning to stop by Wednesday afternoon to talk about finishing up the repair job from the tornado damage. He says the family will have to call their insurance adjuster again before they can think about rebuilding.
