Haz-Mat Scare At Downtown Lexington Bank

Video will be available shortly

Crews were called to the Chase Bank building on East Main Street, but it ended up being a false alarm.

Lexington Fire Department and Haz-Mat crews were called to the Chase Bank building after someone found a suspicious substance in the mail room.

The packaged turned out to be a false alarm but firefighters tell us it's better to be safe than sorry.

"It was silicone, the packaging that keeps moisture out of stuff it is evidently broken," a Lexington Firefighter explains.

There were 5 or 6 people working in the mail room Monday morning around 10 when the call went out.

They were isolated and the mail room was closed off while Haz-Mat crews tested the substance and determined it to be safe.

The rest of the business remained open and operational during the ordeal.

At least 15 firefighters responded to the situation and they say everything went according to plan.
